Deputy Commissioner Nicoletti came before the Committee to discuss ID # 11361- Bond Act RB141- Overhead Sign Structure Replacements, Various Locations. This is an Act for an amended Bond act which will increase the $800,000 previously authorized Bond Act by an additional $6,200,000, brining the total bonding amount to $7,000,000 which will fund the cost of design, construction management and construction associated with the replacement of overhead signs structures and/or sign panels on County roadways. The new signs will meet current design standards and is currently underway. Design should be completed by the fourth quarter of 2018. Construction is estimated to take 12 months. With a motion by Legislator Barr and seconded by Legislator A. Williams the item was approved with a vote of 7-0.

Deputy Commissioner Nicoletti and Kevin Roseman came before the Committee to discuss ID # 11361- Bond Act RB141- Overhead Sign Structure Replacements, Various Locations. This is an Act for an amended Bond act which will increase the $800,000 previously authorized Bond Act by an additional $6,200,000, bringing the total bonding amount to $7,000,000 which will fund the cost of design, construction management and construction associated with the replacement of overhead signs structures and/or sign panels on County roadways. The new signs will meet and/or exceed current design standards and design work is currently underway. Design should be completed by the fourth quarter of 2018. Construction is estimated to take 12 months. Because of climate change, the signs must be upgraded to withstand higher velocity winds. The design to withstand wind gusts that exceed the 110 mph standard set by State by was increased to withstand gusts up to 120 mph. The signs will be built to last a minimum of 50 years. Mr. Nicoletti stated that some signs need seed structural replacement, while others need updated paint to comply with new standards for legibility. (called conspicuity). Legislator asked for a priority lists for replacement which will be supplied by Mr. Nicoletti. He also noted that in addition to the cost for the signs and their installation, the budget includes the cost of traffic control during installation and other ancillary costs. A list, description and maps of the signs and their locations can be accessed in the full minutes. With a motion by Legislator Barr and seconded by Legislator Parker, the item was approved with a vote of 5-0.
